Courage

Welcome to the ‘Class of Courage!'

Welcome to Courage Class, a place of learning, exploration and enjoyment for the oldest members of our school. As we reach Courage Class we recognise the importance of being the role models to our younger peers and take great pride in this. We have buddies within Hope Class and enjoy helping to support the Reception children, particularly during our shared lunchtimes. We also take on many other important roles across the school such as forming the board of the school council, becoming house captains and vice captains, leading worships and being sports ambassadors.

We have lots of exciting topics to learn about in Courage Class including the history topics of: Ancient Greeks, the Tudors and Crime and Punishment throughout British History and the geography topics of: World Biomes, North America and Geographical Diversity across the World. We will be further developing our scientific skills with new and exciting investigations within our topics of materials, living things and forces and will learn new artistic techniques as we produce original artwork in the style of famous artists. We are very excited this year to have received a set of microbits and we will be using these to develop our ability to code within our computing lessons.

As we become older we enjoy taking more ownership of our learning and having choice over the presentation styles we prefer. Whether it is making a poster, writing a diary entry, creating a newspaper article or using technology, we are always trying to develop new and exciting ways to showcase our incredible learning.

As always, forest school is one of our favourite times of the week. Until Christmas much of our forest school time will be spent on site, developing our allotment and the other areas of our school grounds that we love to explore. We will continue to develop our tool skills by learning to safely use the bow saws, hand drills and bill hook to create sculptures including 3-D reindeer. This year we will develop our food knowledge by learning to cook meals over the campfire, deciding on dishes that will cook well and be safe to eat based on their ingredients.

As you can see we have a very busy year planned. If you would like to get involved and help out in any way please just get in touch with Mrs Bridewell as we would love to have you join us.
