Admissions
Applications for entry to our Reception class for September 2024 opened on 1st September, 2023.
The school's Published Admission Number (PAN) for September 2024 is 21.
By law a child does not have to start school until the term following their fifth birthday. However, most children start school in the September following their fourth birthday.
If your child was born between 1st September 2019 and 31st August 2020 they are due to start school in September 2024 and you will need to apply for a school place by midnight on 15th January 2024. All children will be offered a full time place but, if you would prefer your child to attend part-time, or to delay entry until later on in the academic year, please contact the school directly to arrange this. All admissions are administered by the Local Authority.
You can apply by completing an application online with Wiltshire Council. If you do not live within Wiltshire, you must complete the common application form which is produced by your home local authority, even if you wish to apply for a place at a Wiltshire school. Follow this link to see the Wiltshire Council Determined Co-ordinated Scheme for Primary School Admissions for 2023-24.
On 16th April 2024 letters will be sent out to all parents who submitted a paper application form by the January deadline, offering a place at one school. Alternatively, if you applied online you will be able to log back into the online system on national offer date to view the outcome of your application.
Appeals
If the Local Authority is unable to offer your child a place at Chirton after considering your case carefully, you have the right to appeal. Appeals will be heard in late June/early July. Here is a parents guide to school admission appeals.
At Chirton, if you want to appeal please write to the school email admin@chirton.wilts.sch.uk and Equa MAT will organise an appeal panel.
Late Applications
If you apply after the deadline of 15th January, 2024 your application will not be considered until all of those applications received before the deadline have been processed.
Second round applications are applications received between 16th January, 2024 and 26th April, 2024. Applicants will receive a decision on their application on 24 May 2024.
Third round applications are applications received after 26th April and they will not be considered until after 28th June, 2024. Applications received after 26th April will be considered in date order of receipt. Decisions on third round applications will be made and posted out as soon as possible after 28th June, 2024.
Applications for all other year groups
If you wish to apply for a place in any year group other than Reception, please contact the School Office initially, to see if any places are available. If they are, we would be pleased to arrange a visit and you will then need to complete a separate online In Year Transfer Application through the Local Authority. There is no deadline for these applications. They are processed throughout the year by the Local Authority in the order in which they are received and by 31st August each year.
Parents can only hold one offer. Therefore, if an offer is made to a child during the second or third round of allocations any offer made in an earlier round will automatically be withdrawn
Secondary School Applications
If you have a Year 6 child who is leaving us in July 2024, you can apply for a secondary school place from 1st September 2023. The closing date is midnight on 31st October 2023. You can apply online at Wiltshire.gov.uk or complete an application form, which can be obtained on the Wiltshire Council website.
